This past weekend, my wife Louise flew out for a brief visit. After picking her up at Albuquerque airport, we made our way back north on, New Mexico Highway 14, also known as the Turquoise Trail, for all the shops that sell Indian jewelry. We stopped in Madrid for lunch and came away with some gifts. The two-lane-blacktop was scenic and much more interesting than the interstate.

We roamed the ruins of Fort Union together. Each time I’m in the park, I find new images and new ways of seeing the place.

When it was time to take Louise back to the airport we made some side trips including shopping in an open air market at Santa Domingo Pueblo and a trip up to Sandia Crest, altitude 10,679 feet above sea level. By the way, ‘Sandia’ is Spanish for Watermelon.
